All of these pieces began with fabrics that I dyed and/or painted, then layered and stitched. As new layers are added, others are cut away, leaving textues several layers thick at times, with windows that peek into hidden areas underneath. Often, in cutting away layers, I find amazing little pockets of interest -- stitch and color -- that are beautiful and complicated all on their own.
